Noise, erosion, and dust control
At PVT, sustainability includes mitigation of difficult issues that affect our operations. For example, to mitigate noise our landfill activities are located at the rear of the facility. To reduce truck noise, speed limits are enforced and engine braking is prohibited, and the last call for trucks to enter the facility is 3 p.m. There are no nighttime or weekend operations.
An abundance of trees and ground cover beautify PVT and help to prevent erosion. Four water trucks patrol the facility, dampening roads. And two powerful Dust Destroyer cannons operate on the landfill face, laying a blanket of mist over an area the size of two football fields. This helps to prevent dust from rising when equipment is operating.
Recently, PVT added a new wheel wash. It cleans truck wheels before they leave PVT—to prevent dirt from being carried to roads outside the facility.
